How we picked

• Prices come from each vendor's official pricing page, in US dollars, never converted. Every price shows the date we checked it and links to its source. Each price must match a stored copy (snapshot) of the vendor's page, or it isn't published. We re-check twice a week (Mon and Thu); prices older than 14 days show as not yet verified, and those tools aren't ranked or badged until they're re-checked.
• Order: "Our pick order" is our hand-curated list of the closest alternatives. It isn't a numbered ranking. "Lowest starting price" sorts by the cheapest paid plan we list; some starting prices are billed annually and are labelled that way.
• "Best for" badges follow fixed rules: Best free is our top pick with a $0 plan; Best budget is the lowest verified paid price that is cheaper than the tool you're replacing on the same billing basis; Best open source needs an OSI-approved licence. An editor can choose a different tool only with a written reason, and only if it passes the same test. If no tool passes, the badge isn't shown.
• Money: Some links may be affiliate links. We may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes our listings, order or prices. Affiliate links are labelled next to the button. Sponsored placements are paid, always labelled, and never change our order or prices.
• Reddit: we only show quotes copied word for word, each linked to its comment and re-checked live. Any summary is labelled as our read and lists the threads it's based on.
• Research is AI-assisted and reviewed by the team.
